Emmy Nomination Preview 2013 - Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

Wednesday, July 3 - Earlier this month, the ballots were released for the contenders for the upcoming 2013 Emmy Awards. With nominations being announced on the morning of July 18, I'm going through all of the major categories and analyzing which performers are most likely to make the nomination list.

Nominees for the 2012 Emmy Awards
        Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
        Louis C.K., Louie
        Don Cheadle, House of Lies
Jon Cryer, Two and a Half Men
        Larry David, Curb Your Enthusiasm
Jim Parsons, The Big Bang Theory

Larry David is out. So there's at least one open spot in this category - possibly even more. Baldwin, Cryer, Parsons and C.K are all locks to repeat. The final two spots are basically a five man race between Cheadle, Matt LeBlanc, Jason Bateman, Jake Johnson and Adam Scott. Cheadle, LeBlanc and Bateman are all former nominees in this category for the last time their respective shows were eligible. Scott's odds seem to be the weakest in securing a nod but he definitely should not be excluded from the conversation. Johnson was on a series that brilliantly was able to find itself in its second year and that was largely due to the leading story line between him and co-star Zooey Deschanel. So with all that said, here's how I think the chips will fall this year.

NOTE: These rankings are how likely I think people are to be nominated NOT who is likely to win in September.
