NBC Tweaks Schedule: 'This Is Us' Returns to Tuesdays; 2-Hour Comedy Block on Thursdays

It was only a few weeks ago when NBC made the bold decision to move This Is Us to a new night for its upcoming second season. Its move to Thursdays marked the return of "Must See TV!" as well. And now, the network is reversing that decision. Instead, this fall will see This Is Us continue on Tuesday nights while Thursdays will once again feature a 2-hour comedy block.

Here's the official new schedule for Fall 2017 at NBC:

Tuesdays:
        8-9PM: The Voice
        9-10PM: This Is Us
10-11PM: Law & Order: True Crime - The Menendez Murders

Thursdays:
        8-8:30PM: Superstore
        8:30-9PM: The Good Place
        9-9:30PM: Will & Grace
        9:30-10PM: Great News
        10-11PM: Chicago Fire

It's being said today that NBC reversed this decision because of the massive amounts of preemptions that would plague This Is Us' run if it aired on Thursdays. This next season NBC will have Thursday Night Football late in the fall as well as the Winter Olympics during February. And yet, the network knew about both of those things before it made its schedule announcement earlier this month. So, the move may have something to do with comedies and Chicago Fire being able to handle the preemptions better than This Is Us. Or it could be a reaction to three networks airing comedies in the 9 o'clock hour on Tuesdays. Either way, it's the network taking back one of its biggest announcements from the Upfronts.
