NOTE: For the 2017-18 broadcast season, Nielsen has determined that there are 119.6 million TV households. The Adults 18-49 demographic is the rating most commonly reported and helps determine ad rates but is not the sole explanation for whether a show will be renewed or cancelled. Live+7 data helps inform the networks which shows have solid audiences after the initial broadcast.
