Mike Judge Extends Overall Deal with HBO, Gets Production Orders for Comedies 'QualityLand' and 'A5'

Silicon Valley co-creator Mike Judge has signed a rich new two-year overall deal extension with HBO, which will include production commitments to two new comedies: QualityLand and A5.

The deal is said to be worth in the eight-figure range. It also comes as speculation has swirled over whether the upcoming sixth season of Silicon Valley will be its last. A decision about the future of that comedy has not yet been made. Judge is also the creator of animated comedy Tales From the Tour Bus on Cinemax, which concluded its second season in December 2018.

Based on the novel by Marc-Uwe Kling, QualityLand is the story of humanity's struggle against the tyranny of convenience.

Judge co-created the comedy with Josh Lieb (Silicon Valley). They will executive produce with Michael Rotenberg. Lionsgate Television and 3 Arts Entertainment will produce in association with HBO.

Meanwhile, A5 centers on a bioengineer who discovers the gene that makes a person an asshole and attempts to answer the questions nagging at all of us: Why do assholes exist? Why have they come to dominate our culture? And can they be cured?

Judge co-created the comedic limited series with Etan Cohen (King of the Hill). They will executive produce with Rotenberg. 3 Arts Entertainment will produce for HBO.
