Disney+ Orders 'Beauty and the Beast' Prequel Starring Josh Gad and Luke Evans

Disney+ has today given a series order to the original limited series Beauty and the Beast - a prequel to the 2017 live-action feature film with Josh Gad and Luke Evans set to reprise their roles as LeFou and Gaston.

Set in the iconic kingdom of Beauty and the Beast years before the Beast and Belle's epic romance, the series will follow Gaston and LeFou as they set off with LeFou's step-sister, Tilly (Briana Middleton), after a surprising revelation from her past comes to light, sending the unlikely trio off on an unexpected journey filled with romance, comedy and adventure. While the mysteries of the past are uncovered and the dangers of the present grow, old friends and new enemies reveal that this familiar kingdom harbors many secrets.

Gad developed the series with Once Upon a Time creators Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz. They will executive produce with Alan Menken and director Liesl Tommy. Disney Branded Television and ABC Signature will produce.

The series will feature an original soundtrack from the EGOT Award-winning composer Alan Menken, with lyrics for the first episode from Oscar-nominee Glenn Slater. The soundtrack will be released by Walt Disney Records.

Production on the 8-episode prequel will begin in spring 2022.
