During the final arc of The Good Wife's second season, many relationships and dynamics have changed due to many climatic events. The election finally happened which not only affected the Florricks but it affected the firm, Kalinda, Cary and the entire state as well. Here is a recap of the last episodes of this critically-acclaimed drama's season two.
2.17 "Ham Sandwich" - A-: This was interesting in that focused mostly on the case which was Lockhart/Gardner represented a drug dealer in his divorce. While that was going on, Kalinda was fretting over her grand jury appearance and had Alicia represent her where they discovered that the States Attorney wasn't going after her but using her as bait to attack the entire firm.
2.18 "Killer Song" - B+: Another case-based episode but this one wasn't as interesting. Alicia had to convince a jury that the lyrics to a song were directly connected to a murder that happened. The twist at the end was nice to see. It was also nice to see Eli develop as he helped Wendy's former illegal nanny escape deportation. We could tell that he cared about her well-being and wanted to help.
2.19 "Wrongful Termination" - B+: This episode saw the return of former partner Jonas Stern and cunning attorney Louis Canning. Stern suddenly passed away while working on a case against Alicia and Mr. Canning took the case over. Once again, it was interesting to see the dynamic between Alicia and Louis and a part of me thought she would join his firm just because they work well together but I knew that would never happen.
2.20 "Foreign Affairs" - A: I'll be the first to admit that the case wasn't that interesting as it involved a clearly fake Venezuelan president. The case really did take a back seat to the drama surrounding the race for states attorney as it was election day. And as always, it was up to Alicia to make a big difference. Due to a last minute interview she did, Peter was able to push ahead and win. Unfortunately for him, she then found out the truth about him and Kalinda.
2.21 "In Sickness" - A: In simple terms, this was the best episode of the entire season. The emotions from the entire cast were dead on. I truly felt all of the pain that Alicia and Peter were feeling. The legal case also flowed seamlessly with the overarching plot of the episode: the breakup of the Florricks.
2.22 "Getting Off" - A: This case was fun. As the penultimate episode of the season, it worked to stirrup the emotions between Alicia and everyone else. Her client pushed her to the limits with her beliefs and in the end still puzzled her. Kalinda was also determined to leave the firm and go to work with an old friend. In the end, she decided to stay with the firm because her new job would require her to work at the states attorney's office with Peter and Cary. It was interesting to see that the end of the episode would segue right into the plot of the season finale.
2.23 "Closing Arguments" - A: First off, such a fitting title to a wonderful final episode of the season. The firm had to quickly prove a man's innocence in a judge's murder as exiting state's attorney Glenn Childs tries to go out with a bang. New evidence was obtained and the firm had until the jury came back from deliberating. The entire cast was able to work together to help out this man despite their personal turmoils with everyone else. The Eli-Alicia took an interesting turn of dynamics with Eli doing what is best for the both of them despite Alicia's disapproval. He will now work at the firm with Alicia being the link between him and Will & Diane. We could tell that he wants Alicia and Peter to work together in order for all of them to get further in life. But, Alicia finally took her chance with Will even thought the universe "was working against them." I'm sure their romantic reunion will have serious repercussions next season and now I'm intrigued to see how it will all work out.
The conclusion to a dramatic season was quite an event in itself and left the door open for many interesting plots for next season. It will definitely be interesting to see the fallout of all of the decisions that were made in the season finale. Hopefully, season three will be just as good and mythological as season two.
