'The Good Wife' Review - 3.02 The Death Zone

After a great premiere, The Good Wife returned for its second episode that once again proved how relevant and inventive their lawyer cases can be.
Alicia must quickly learn English Law when a libel case she won in the United States is retried in a British court. Meanwhile, Diane has to make a decision for the firm when Peter offers them a deal and Eli asks Kalinda to help him prepare for a job proposal.

The main focus of this episode was the actual case of the week. Although the case was very interesting and complex, it just didn't work for me. Alicia and Will both had to adjust to how the British law works and they were both fish out of water in this episode. I'm still amazed by how this show is able to interconnect the scandals of the real world to their dialogue of arguments and topics. But the thing that annoyed me the most was the fact that guest star Simon Delaney did the majority of the arguing for the case. His character was quirky but not all that likable so I had trouble rooting for him when in my head I was thinking, okay when is Alicia going to interrupt and win this case?
While Alicia and Will were busy with their case, Diane was campaigning for the firm to become the legal representation of the States Attorney's office. The job was practically theirs except that Peter asked for the firm to be audited which didn't sit well with any of them. We also learned that out of all of the firms in the running for the job, Lockhart/Gardner was the only one asked to do this. That fact gets me thinking that Peter and Cary know something big about the firm that could become an obstacle in future episodes. I really enjoyed the scene where Diane shows up at Alicia's apartment expecting to talk to Peter and how Alicia just playfully juggles around the fact that the two of them have separated. But in the end, Diane picked up on that fact - although she doesn't know if it's true - and makes Will commit to firing Alicia if she ever goes against the firm. Will agrees and this just leaves me thinking how some monumental thing will happen that will cost Alicia her job because of this agreement now. However, I am also puzzled because I can't think of anything that would come between Alicia and being faithful to the firm.
But the best part about this episode was the interactions between Eli and Kalinda. Two of the most popular characters but who have just met for the first time! It's surprising to hear that but it just makes this story even better. Both of them just played so well off of each other that I'm looking forward to see how their partnership develops over the course of the season.
