TV News - 'Homeland,' 'Grimm,' 'Major Crimes' & 'Private Practice'

        Tuesday, May 29 - Today marks the start of a new feature here promptly called TV News Roundup. This will be a daily post that will briefly cover all of the various TV-related news released throughout the day. Today's items included Homeland casting a Lost alum for a vital season 2 role; a star from NCIS booking a guest role on an upcoming new summer drama; a writer's change-up at Private Practice; and many more!

  • Lost alum Zuleikha Robinson has booked a major recurring role for the second season of Showtime's Homeland. She will play Roya Hammad, a field journalist with special ties to terrorist Abu Nazir who delivers an ultimatum to Brody.
  • James Frain (True Blood) has been tapped to play the recurring role of Eric Renard on the season season of NBC's Grimm. Frain's character is the brother to Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz) whose arrival in Portland causes some major family turmoil for the estranged siblings.
  • NCIS vet Michael Weatherly has become the first big guest star announcement for the upcoming Closer spinoff, Major Crimes, on TNT. He will play Arthur "Thorn" Woodson, a charming con artist who currently works as an "intuitive life strategist" for a group of Israeli mob wives (all of whom he is sleeping with). Frequent NCIS director, Arvin Brown will helm this early season 1 episode. Major Crimes premieres on Monday, August 13 at 10/9c. after The Closer's series finale.
  • ABC medical drama Private Practice has promoted Jennifer Cecil and Barbie Kligman to executive producers/co-head writers for the drama's upcoming 13-episode sixth season. Cecil and Kligman succeed the exiting Steve Blackman and Craig Turk who helmed the writer's room for the past two years.
  • Canadian broadcaster, CityTV, today announced which shows from the broadcast networks they have picked up to air during the 2012-2013 season. The schedule is listed below:
  • Monday: How I Met Your Mother, Partners, 2 Broke Girls, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, Revolution 
  • Tuesday: Raising Hope, Ben and Kate, New Girl, The Mindy Project, Private Practice 
  • Wednesday: The Middle, Suburgatory, Modern Family
  • Thursday: 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Person of Interest, Scandal 
  • Friday: Last Man Standing, Community, Fringe 
  • Sunday: Malibu Country, Happy Endings, Revenge, 666 Park Avenue 
  • Midseason: Hannibal, The Carrie Diaries, 1600 Penn, The Goodwin Games, How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life)
