TV News - 'Parenthood,' 'Wayward Pines,' 'HR,' 'The Good Wife,' 'Strike Back,' 'Parks and Recreation,' 'Quarry' & 'Once Upon a Time'

        Thursday, July 11 - Friday Night Lights alum Matt Lauria has officially closed a deal to return to NBC's Parenthood for its upcoming fifth season. He appear in ten episode of the family drama's fourth season. His new deal means he will appear in at least half of the season's 22 episodes with an option to do more. Carla Gugino (Political Animals) has joined the cast of FOX's upcoming event series Wayward Pines from Chad Hodge and M. Night Shyamalan. She will play Kate Hewson, a former lover and partner of Secret Service agent Ethan Burke (Matt Dillon), who now resides in the bucolic Wayward Pines. As Ethan furthers his investigation into the town, he rediscovers that the love he once shared with the capable, loyal, fiery, blunt and fearless Kate still simmers just below the surface.

Darren Star (Sex and the City, Melrose Place) has signed on to direct and executive produce the Lifetime drama pilot HR starring Alicia Silverstone. The project focuses on the profession and personal changes Ellen Bell (Silverstone), the uptight Director of Human Resources for a multinational corporation, goes through after suffering a head injury.

Jess Weixler is set to return to CBS' The Good Wife for its upcoming fifth season. Her fan favorite character, Robyn Burdine, appeared in six episodes of the legal drama's fourth season. It is currently unclear how many more episodes she will appear in.

Cinemax's drama series Strike Back will return for its ten-episode third season on Friday, August 9 at 10/9c.

Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, House of Lies) has been tapped to appear in an early October episode of NBC's Parks and Recreation. She will play a snooty City Councilwoman from the neighboring Eagleton who is Leslie Knope's (Amy Poehler) equivalent in every way except she's richer and better dressed.

Sons of Anarchy vet Kurt Yaeger has joined the cast of the Cinemax drama pilot Quarry. He will play McCurly, an interesting guy who crosses paths with Quarry (Logan Marshall-Green) in his new job as a mercenary.

Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, Revolution) is set to return to ABC's Once Upon a Time for its upcoming third season. He will guest in an early fall episode. Esposito recurred on the fairytale drama throughout its first season as reporter Sidney Glass / the Magic Mirror / the Genie of Agrabah.

Lost alum Sonya Walger has booked a recurring role on NBC's Parenthood. She will play Meredith, a sexy, confident fireball of an architect who is working with Joel (Sam Jaeger) on a two-year project. In the September 26 premiere, Joel and Julia (Erika Christensen) invite her over for dinner and she inadvertently makes Julia feel self-conscious about being a stay-at-home mom. Julia views her as a bit of a threat, even though she isn't consciously trying to be.
