ABC Orders U.S. Adaptation of Australian Drama 'Secrets & Lies'

ABC is the latest broadcast network to pick up a new show straight-to-series. The network has given a green-light to a 10-episode adaptation of the upcoming Australian drama series Secrets & Lies.

The original Secrets & Lies is set to bow in Australia in early 2014 and stars Martin Henderson as a patriarch who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy when he finds the boy's body.

The American adaptation comes from ABC Studios, Kapital Entertainment and Australian-based Hoodlum. Aaron Kaplan, Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield will executive produce the project with a search underway for a showrunner. Casting is already underway for the lead roles.

Secrets & Lies is the latest in a string of direct-to-series orders for the broadcast networks. Recently FOX handed out 13-episode commitments to the ancient-Egypt set Hieroglyph; an untitled mutli-cam comedy from Tina Fey, Matt Hubbard and Robert Carlock; and a Batman prequel series Gotham. CBS, too, has already ordered dramas Battle Creek, from Vince Gilligan and David Shore, and Extant, which is set to bow next summer.
