Showtime Gives Early Season 7 Renewal to 'Nurse Jackie'

Two weeks ahead of its sixth season premiere, Showtime has picked up Nurse Jackie starring Emmy winner Edie Falco for a seventh season. The announcement was made by David Nevins, President, Showtime Networks Inc. The new season will begin filming in New York later this year for a 2015 debut.

Additionally, Clyde Phillips who joined the series at the start of season 5 as executive producer/showrunner has signed a new two year deal with Lionsgate Television - which co-produces the series - and will continue in the role for the seventh season.

Nurse Jackie centers on Jackie Peyton (Falco), a strong-willed and brilliant - but very flawed - emergency room nurse. In the sixth season, Jackie returns to the demons of her addiction. It is a daily high wire act with no net. She's trying to cope with a real relationship (Adam Ferrara), an ex-husband (Dominic Fumusa), a daughter who is growing up way too fast (Ruby Jerins) and a sponsor who she can't seem to shake (guest star Julie White). Something's gotta give.

Nurse Jackie also stars Merritt Wever, Paul Schulze, Anna Deavere Smith, Stephen Wallem, Betty Gilpin, Mackenzie Aladjem and Peter Facinelli. Special guest star Morris Chestnut returns, and Laura Benanti and Michael Esper guest star. Tom Straw, Richie Jackson, Liz Flahive and Caryn Mandabach also executive produce.
