ABC Gives Full Season Orders to 'How to Get Away With Murder' & 'black-ish'

ABC is the first broadcast network to hand out full-season commitments to its new fall shows. Earning additional episode pickups this evening include drama How to Get Away With Murder and comedy black-ish. The two series currently rank as the highest rated new drama and comedy of the fall.

Produced by Shonda Rhimes and created by Peter Nowalk, How to Get Away With Murder starring Viola Davis opened to an impressive 14 million total viewers and a 3.9 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. When factoring in three days of delayed viewing, the drama set a new record, becoming the biggest DVR viewership gain in history - growing to 20.3 million total viewers and a 5.6 in the key demo. The drama's first season will now include 15 episodes - the most allowed in Davis' contractual deal with the series.

Created by Kenya Barris and starring Anthony Anderson, black-ish was the first success story to come out of the post-Modern Family time slot. The comedy opened to 10.8 million total viewers and a 3.3 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic. The comedy will now run for the traditional 22 episodes.

Still awaiting pickup decisions are drama Forever and comedies Selfie, Manhattan Love Story and Cristela (which premieres tomorrow night).
