MTV Gives Series Order to Drama 'Scream' - An Adaptation of the Successful Film Franchise

MTV has given a series order to Scream, a television adaptation of the successful horror film franchise of the same name from Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven. The new series will debut in October 2015.

The cast for Scream includes Willa Fitzgerald, John Karma, Carlson Young, Amadeus Serafini, Bex Taylor-Klaus, Bobby Campo, Connor Weil, Tracy Middendorf and Joel Gretsch.

Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin penned the pilot script, with Jill Blotevogel set to serve as showrunner. Jamie Travis directed the pilot. All four will executive produce alongside the film series' producers Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Wes Craven, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad. Williamson - who has three dramas on TV (The Vampire Diaries, The Following, Stalker) - is not involved in the MTV series at all. Dimension Films and The Weinstein Co. produce.

The upcoming series has already stirred up some controversy from the decision not to include Ghostface in the adaptation.
