Starz Renews 'Black Sails' for Season 3

Three months ahead of its season two debut, Starz has handed out a third season renewal to pirate drama Black Sails. The renewal was made official today during the drama's New York Comic-Con panel.

Created by Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine, Black Sails is set 20 years before Robert Louis Stevenson's novel Treasure Island and chronicles the tales of Captain Flint and his men, including a young John Silver.

The drama stars Toby Stephens, Hannah New, Luke Arnold, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Zach McGowan, Toby Schmitz, Clara Paget, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Sean Cameron Michael and Louise Barnes.

Steinberg and Levine serve as executive producers alongside Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form and Chris Symes. Platinum Dunes, Quaker Moving Pictures and Film Afrika Worldwide produce.

"The incredible world that Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine have created continues to unfold in season two," said Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik. "Flint's journey is riveting, and around him, Jon and Robert have woven an intricate web of conflict, betrayal and redemption for the other characters that we believe will keep fans of the show coming back for more. We think that season three will bring even more of the drama and lore that has made it a hit both in the U.S. and internationally."

The second season debuts Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 9/8c.
