Development News - Helena Bonham Carter & Rebecca Hall Join 'Codes of Conduct'; 'The Magicians' Casts Lead Roles

Development News - December 3, 2014

HBO's Codes of Conduct and Syfy's The Magicians.

SYFY's THE MAGICIANS
  • Jason Ralph (Aquarius) and Sosie Bacon (The Closer) will play the lead roles on the drama pilot. Ralph will play Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant, withdrawn yet strangely compelling young man who feels like an outsider among his accomplished peers. Dangerously depressed and disaffected, Quentin has always been a huge fan of a series of books set in the magical land of Fillory - books that still hold immense fascination for him, even though they are intended for children. When he's recruited as a new student at the mysterious Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, he realizes that magic is very real, and that he himself is a potentially gifted practitioner. Bacon will play Alice, born in a magical but neglectful family and an outcast among her fellow students at Brakebills, but nonetheless emerges as the most brilliant magical practitioner in her class.
HBO's CODES OF CONDUCT
  • Helena Bonham Carter (The King's Speech) and Rebecca Hall (The Town) will co-star on the drama pilot starring Devon Terrell. Carter will play Esther Kaufmann, a woman born into a prominent Jewish family in Manhattan who is an author, psychiatrist, divorced mother of two grown boys who is now living life on her own terms - terms that change dramatically after she crosses paths with Beverly Snow (Terrell). Hall will play Rebecca Rotmensen, the eldest child of a New York billionaire who will emerge as Beverly's foremost rival, his equal in guile and ruthlessness.
