ABC Family Renews 'The Fosters' for Season 3

ABC Family today announced it has renewed hit drama The Fosters for a third season. The drama returns for the second half of its second season on Monday, January 19 at 8/7c. The third season will likely debut this summer.

"We are thrilled to be making more episodes of The Fosters - a show that has not only garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards but resonates with our passionate and committed audience," said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development, ABC Family.

The Fosters centers on a multi-ethnic family mix of foster and biological teenaged kids being raised by two moms. Stef Adams Foster (Teri Polo), a dedicated police officer, and her wife, Lena Adams Foster (Sherri Saum), a school Vice Principal, have built a close-knit, loving family with Stef's biological son from a previous marriage, Brandon (David Lambert), and their adopted twins, Mariana (Cierra Ramirez) and Jesus (Jake T. Austin). Recently added to the mix are their newly adopted son, Jude (Hayden Byerly), and his sister, Callie (Maia Mitchell), who is striving toward adoption as well despite the roadblocks caused by her tumultuous family history.

The Fosters was created by Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige, who serve as executive producers alongside Jennifer Lopez, Joanna Johnson, Greg Gugliotta, Elaine Goldsmith Thomas and Benny Medina. The series is produced by Nuyorican Productions, in association with ABC Family.
