Development News - February 5, 2015

CBS' Joe Time; FOX's Untitled Dana Klein; HBO's Insecure & Mamma Dallas; NBC's Chicago Med, Untitled Suzanne Martin & Warrior; and TruTV's Shaq, Inq

FOX's UNTITLED DANA KLEIN PROJECT
  • Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, Growing Up Fisher) will play the lead role on the untitled multi-camera comedy pilot written by Dana Klein. She will play Ellen, a working mom who is constantly second-guessing herself. She worries she's a bad mom/wife/daughter-in-law and often takes on more than she can handle in an effort to prove otherwise.
NBC's CHICAGO MED
  • NBC has officially given the greenlight to a potential medical spinoff from Chicago Fire that will air as a backdoor pilot during the 19th episode of the firefighter drama's third season. The episode will be written by Derek Haas, Michael Brandt, Matt Olmstead and Dick Wolf, with Universal Television and Wolf Films producing. The episode will focus on characters who work at Chicago Medical Hospital.
NBC's WARRIOR
  • Phillip Noyce is set to direct the magical martial arts drama pilot written by David DiGilio. He most recently helmed the pilots for ABC's Revenge and NBC's Crisis.
HBO's INSECURE
  • HBO has given a pilot order to single camera comedy Insecure starring Issa Rae. The pilot was co-written by Rae and Larry Wilmore. The project focuses on the awkward experiences and racy tribulations of a modern day African-American woman. Executive producers are Rae, Wilmore, Michael Rotenberg, Dave Becky and Jonathan Berry. 3 Arts Entertainment will produce.
HBO's MAMMA DALLAS
  • Paul Fitzgerald (Treme), Mary Catherine Garrison (Veep) and Nico Tortorella (The Following) will co-star on the comedy pilot starring Augustus Prew. Fitzgerald will play Hugh Cox, an earnest, successful man with political aspirations who is deathly afraid of any hint of scandal. Garrison will play Carrie Cox, a perfectionistic woman whose decorating business is taking off and needs a nanny to help with the kids. Tortorella will play Jesse, Liberty's (Prew) lowlife boyfriend, who runs a chop shop and steals high-priced sports cars and is horrified that his macho friends will find out he's dating a guy.
NBC's UNTITLED SUZANNE MARTIN PROJECT
  • Veteran comedy director James Burrows has signed on to direct the pilot for the untitled multi-camera comedy from writer Suzanne Martin and producer Sean Hayes. Burrows previously did the pilots for the last two sitcoms that featured Hayes in a lead role - NBC's Will & Grace and Sean Saves the World. (It should be noted that Hayes is not attached to appear in this pilot at all, he's just a producer).
CBS' JOE TIME
  • James Burrows has also been tapped to direct the pilot for the multi-camera comedy from writer Bill Wrubel. Other pilot directorial credits for Burrows include CBS' The Big Bang Theory, Mike & Molly and 2 Broke Girls.
TRUTV's SHAQ, INQ.
  • Meryl Hathaway, Miles Fisher, Matty Cardarople and Carl Anthony Payne have been cast on the comedy pilot starring Shaquille O'Neal. Hathaway will play Laura, the executive who Shaq calls "L-Train" and the only person hired on her own merit at the company. Fisher will play Ed, the CEO of Shaq, Inc. Cardarople and Payne will play characters named Blake and Mike.
