Development News - Joy Bryant to Co-Star on 'The Advocate'; Alexandra Chando Joins 'Dead People'; Plus 11 More Updates!

ABC's The AdvocateBroad Squad, Of Kings and Prophets, Untitled Johnny Knoxville & Untitled Judah Miller; CBS' Rush Hour, Untitled Tommy Johnagin & Untitled O'Shannon/Warren; The CW's Cheerleader Death Squad & Dead People; FOX's Untitled Todd Harthan; and NBC's Heart Matters & Untitled Suzanne Martin.


ABC's BROAD SQUAD
  • Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under) has landed the fourth lead role on the drama pilot, with Michael Gaston, Kenneth Mitchell and Alberto Frezza also being cast today. Ambrose will play Eileen, one of four newly minted patrol officers in 1978 Boston. Gaston will play Captain Donahue, who oversees his boys' club precinct and is amused and annoyed by the four female rookie cops. Mitchell will play Jim Pearce, a former police officer and Eileen's husband, now sidelined by an injury. Frezza will play Officer Frank, a rookie cop and a charming ex-high school football star.
NBC's HEART MATTERS
  • Shelley Conn (Terra Nova, The Lottery) has booked a regular role on the drama pilot starring Melissa George. She will play Millicent, who is not exactly rivals with Alex (George), but they do not get along.
NBC's UNTITLED SUZANNE MARTIN PROJECT
  • Carlease Burke (Switched at Birth) has been cast on the comedy pilot written by Suzanne Martin. She will play Alice, Bob's (Stacy Keach) second wife and Mike's (Patrick Warburton) step-mother.
CBS' UNTITLED DAN O'SHANNON & PETER WARREN PROJECT
  • Kelly O'Sullivan (Sirens) is the first to be cast on the comedy pilot written by Dan O'Shannon and Peter Warren. She will play Katie, a fun, feisty and likable woman who's been a fireball her entire life. She is soon to be married, and we see her throughout the vibrant and wild days of her past.
CBS' UNTITLED TOMMY JOHNAGIN PROJECT
  • Talia Tabin (Parks and Recreation) has landed a regular role on the comedy pilot starring Tommy Johnagin. SHe will play Stacy, Tommy's (Johnagin) younger sister, a single mom with a 2-year-old son.
CBS' RUSH HOUR
  • Aimee Garcia (Dexter) and Jessika Van (The Messengers) have been cast on the action comedy pilot written by Bill Lawrence and Blake McCormick. Garcia will play DiDi Diaz, an LAPD sergeant and Carter's former partner who knows him better than most people and isn't afraid to call him out. Van will play Kim, Detective Lee's (Jon Foo) younger sister, one of the few female officers with the Hong Kong Police Department.
THE CW's DEAD PEOPLE
  • The Lying Game star Alexandra Chando will co-star on the drama pilot written by Tom Kapinos. She will play Pearl, Floyd's (Andrew J. West) deceased wife who was perceptive, sweet, funny and a perfect match for him - and who now helps him to move on with his life.
ABC's THE ADVOCATE
  • Parenthood alum Joy Bryant is set as the co-lead on the drama pilot, with Coby Bell and Freddie Thorpe also joining the cast today. Bryant will play Dr. Ryan Clarke, Frankie's (Kim Raver) partner, a brilliant doctor who meets Frankie by chance, helps her out of a tight spot and subsequently opens a patient advocacy firm with her hard-driving new friend. Bell will play Chris, who is trying to keep the medical firm afloat. Thorpe will play Frankie's son.
ABC's OF KINGS AND PROPHETS
  • Maisie Richardson-Sellers (The Originals) has booked a lead role on the drama pilot written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage. She will play Michal, the youngest child of King Saul (Ray Winstone).
ABC's UNTITLED JOHNNY KNOXVILLE PROJECT
  • Julie Ann Emery (Better Call Saul) and Brad Carter (Ascension) have joined the cast of the comedy pilot written by Victor Fresco. Emery will play Genevieve, Johnny's shamelessly narcissistic and caring mother. Carter will play "Jukebox" Johnson Jr., an employee of Ray's tire shop who got his name from stealing from a jukebox right in front of the store owner.
ABC's UNTITLED JUDAH MILLER PROJECT
  • Efren Ramirez (Napoleon Dynamite) has been cast on the comedy pilot written by Judah Miller. He will play Jose Luis, one of three men who are Irene's (Megan Hilty) gay Greek chorus. They are the one thing in the suburbs that remind her of her days living in Manhattan.
FOX's UNTITLED TODD HARTHAN PROJECT
  • Jaina Lee Ortiz (The After) and Maggie Elizabeth Jones (Ben and Kate) have joined the cast of the drama pilot starring Morris Chestnut. Ortiz will play Karissa Villa, a former NYPD detective who recently moved back to Miami and ends up helping Dr. Rosewood (Chestnut). Jones will play Millie, Rosewood's neighbor and an aspiring chef who spends a lot of time with him and very regularly provides him with insight beyond her years.
THE CW's CHEERLEADER DEATH SQUAD
  • Former Reign co-star Alan Van Sprang has been tapped to play the lead role on the drama, with Abbie Cobb (Suburgatory) also being cast today. Van Sprang will play Stone, a disgraced CIA agent-turned-history teacher at an elite Washington, D.C. prep school. When he realizes that his students have high-level access through personal connections, he trains three mean girls, Grace (Gia Mantegna), Ursula and Maddie (Cobb), to be his eyes and ears into the world of international espionage and help him earn his way back into the agency.
