Development News - May 1, 2015

FX's Snowfall and HBO's Mamma Dallas.

HBO's MAMMA DALLAS
  • The premium cable network has opted not to move forward with the single camera comedy pilot written and directed by Mike White. Dede Gardner was also an executive producer. The project centered on Liberty (Augustus Prew) who appears to be an attractive woman with a flirty side - but she's really a drag queen with an upbeat personality. On a path that leads to jail or prostitution or both, Liberty sees a future that will destroy his basically optimistic spirit and re-invents himself to get a job as a nanny to three children of a conservative Texan family. The cast also included Paul Fitzgerald, Mary Catherine Garrison, Nico Tortorella, Talitha Bateman and Gabriel Bateman.
FX's SNOWFALL
  • FX has given a pilot order to drama Snowfall written and to be directed by Oscar nominee John Singleton (Boyz in the Hood). Eric Amadio co-wrote the pilot script, and executive producers with Singleton, Dave Andron, Michael London and Trevor Engelson. FX Productions and Groundswell Productions will produce. The project is set against the infancy of the crack cocaine epidemic and its ultimate radical impact on the culture as we know it in 1981 Los Angeles. The story follows three characters on a violent collision course: Franklin Saint, young street entrepreneur on a quest for power; Gustavo Zapata, a Mexican wrestler turned gangster in search of his American dream; and Logan Miller, a prominent family's "black sheep" desperate to escape his father's shadow.
