Development News - May 13, 2015

TBS's The Group; and TNT's Animal Kingdom & Will.

TBS's THE GROUP
  • TBS has given a pilot order to single camera comedy The Group written by David Jenkins. Executive producers are Conan O'Brien, Jeff Ross, David Kissinger, Dan Halsted and director Greg Daniels. Jenkins is a co-executive producer. Warner Horizon Television and Conaco will produce. The project centers on a support group for people who think they have been abducted by aliens as they are being written about by skeptical journalist Wyatt Jones. The more he digs into the oddballs' claims, however, the more confused, intrigued and seduced he becomes.
TNT's WILL
  • TNT has handed a pilot order to drama Will written by Craig Pearce. Executive producers are Pearce, Vince Gerardis, Howard Braunstein and Louise Rosager. TNT Original Productions will produce. The project focuses on the wild story of young William Shakespeare's arrival onto the punk rock theater scene that was 16th century London - the seductive, violent world where his raw talent faced rioting audiences, religious fanatics and raucous side-shows. It's the hot contemporary, dangerous version of Shakespeare's life, played to a modern soundtrack, exposing all his recklessness, lustful temptations and brilliance.
TNT's ANIMAL KINGDOM
  • TNT is also giving a pilot order to drama Animal Kingdom written by Jonathan Lisco. Executive producers are Lisco, Andrew Stearn, David Michod, Liz Watts and director John Wells. Warner Horizon Television and John Wells Productions will produce. Inspired by the feature film of the same name, the drama centers on 17-year-old Josh who moves in with his wild, free-wheeling relatives in their Southern California beach town. He is pulled into their life of indulgence and excess. But after Josh discovers that it's all being funded by criminal activities, it suddenly becomes clear to him that joining the family comes with more danger and excitement than he might be ready to handle.
