ABC Family/Freeform Renews 'Switched at Birth' for Season 5

ABC Family has picked up a fifth season of its hit original drama series Switched at Birth. The series will reach its milestone 100 episodes during the upcoming season. The new season will air after ABC Family becomes Freeform in January 2016.

"Every season Switched at Birth continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily," said Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development. "We're excited to see where Lizzy will take these characters next."

Switched at Birth is a family drama exploring early adulthood, blended families and deaf culture, including scenes shot entirely in American Sign Language.

Lizzy Weiss created the drama, and executive produces with Paul Stupin and Linda Gase. The series stars Katie Leclerc, Vanessa Marano, Constance Marie, D.W. Moffett, Lea Thompson, Lucas Grabeel, and Sean Berdy, with guest star Marlee Matlin.
