Netflix has picked up six episodes of the action-adventure, period drama Frontier which has just tapped The Red Road alum Jason Momoa to star. The drama will premiere on the online streaming service in 2016.
Created by Rob Blackie and Peter Blackie, Frontier follows the chaotic and violent struggle to control wealth and power in the North American fur trade in the late 18th century. The series will be told from multiple perspectives and is set in a world where business negotiations might be resolved with close-quarter hatchet fights, and where delicate relations between Native tribes and Europeans can spark bloody conflicts.
Brad Peyton (San Andreas) has also signed on to direct and executive produce. Additional executive producers include Jeff Fierson, Alex Patrick and John Vatcher. The series is produced by Take the Shot Production and Factory Backwards, in association with Discovery.
Momoa will star as Declan Harp, an ambitious, confident, charismatic and untamed man with a reputation for being a ruthless trader, driven by lust and revenge.
The drama will also star Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove), Alun Armstrong (Braveheart), Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey), Allan Hawco (The Book of Negroes) and newcomer Jessica Matten.
