Casting News - Megalyn Echikunwoke Reprises 'Vixen' Role on 'Arrow'; Hulu Cancels 'The Awesomes'; Plus 6 More Updates!

Casting News - December 18, 2015

A&E's Bates Motel; ABC's Once Upon a Time; Cinemax's Banshee; The CW's Arrow & Legends of Tomorrow; Esquire's Beowulf; and Hulu's The Awesomes & The Mindy Project

A&E's BATES MOTEL
  • Jaime Ray Newman (Wicked City, Mindy Games) has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming fourth season. She will play Rebecca Hamilton, an old flame of Alex Romero (Nestor Carbonell) who she still very much loves.
HULU's THE AWESOMES
  • The online streaming service has cancelled the animated comedy created by Seth Meyers and Mike Shoemaker after three seasons. The voice cast included Meyers, Ike Barinholtz, Emily Spivey, Taran Killam, Kenan Thompson, Bobby Lee, Paula Pell, Rashida Jones, Bill Hader, Josh Meyers and Rachel Dratch. The show is reportedly being shopped around to other outlets.
HULU's THE MINDY PROJECT
  • After recurring throughout the first half of the fourth season, Fortune Feimster has been promoted to series regular on the hit comedy from Mindy Kaling. She plays Colette Kimball, the new nurse in the office who joined alongside her brother, Jody (guest star Garret Dillahunt).
ESQUIRE's BEOWULF
  • The cable network will premiere its second original scripted series on Saturday, January 23 at 10/9c. The drama stars Kieran Bew, William Hurt, Joanne Whalley, Ed Speleers, Laura Donnelly and David Ajala.
THE CW's ARROW
  • After voicing the character on the CW Seed's Vixen, Megalyn Echikunwoke is set to play Mari McCabe aka Vixen on an upcoming episode of the drama's fourth season. McCabe is an African orphan who inherited the ability to mimic any animal. On Vixen, she interacted with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell), Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) in animated form.
THE CW's LEGENDS OF TOMORROW
  • Arrow alum Matt Nable will reprise his role as Ra's al Ghul on an upcoming episode of the spinoff. Ra's was killed at the end of the third season of Arrow, but given that the spinoff features time travel, it should be easy to explain why he appears again.
ABC's ONCE UPON A TIME
  • Teri Reeves (Chicago Fire, Three Rivers) has landed a recurring role on the drama's fifth season. She will play Dorothy Gale, who returns to Oz to save the magical city from the most wicked of witches. But to do so, she will have to forge new friendships, unlocking a strength she has never had before.
CINEMAX's BANSHEE
  • Originally scheduled for January 29, the upcoming fourth and final season of the hit drama will now premiere on Friday, April 1. The change was announced by series creator Jonathan Tropper on Twitter today.
