Showtime Gives Series Order to Hourlong Comedy 'I'm Dying Up Here' Starring Melissa Leo

Showtime used its platform at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour in order to announced the series pickup of hourlong comedy I'm Dying Up Here starring Oscar and Emmy winner Melissa Leo. A premiere date or episode count weren't immediately announced.

Based on the novel by William Knoedelseder, I'm Dying Up Here is set in the celebrated and infamous stand-up comedy scene of 1970s Los Angeles. The series will delve into the inspired and damaged psyches that inhabit the hilarious but complex business of making an audience laugh.

In addition to Leo, the ensemble cast for the pilot includes Ari Graynor, Sebastian Stan, Clark Duke, RJ Cyler, Stephen Guarino, Andrew Santino, Erik Griffin, Alfred Molina, Dylan Baker, Al Madrigal, Jon Daly, Brianne Howey, Cathy Moriarty and Robert Forster.

The pilot was written by former stand-up comedian Dave Flebotte. He will executive produce with Jim Carrey, Michael Aguilar, Christina Wayen and director Jonathan Levine. Endemol Shine Studios and Assembly Entertainment produce the series.
