Netflix has given a series order to drama Ozark starring Jason Bateman, who will also direct and executive produce. The series from Media Rights Capital is eyeing a Spring 2016 production start in New York and Vancouver.
Set in the world of drug-money laundering, Bateman stars as a family man who moves from the city to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri to begin repaying the money-laundering debt he owes to a ruthless drug lord.
Bill Dubuque (The Judge) created the series, and will executive produce with Bateman, Mark Williams and showrunner Chris Mundy.
The series deal marks Bateman's return to Netflix, where he recently reprised his role as Michael Bluth in the fourth season of Arrested Development.
An exact episode court for the first season of Ozark was not announced.
