Development News - Anna Paquin to Star in ABC's 'Broken'; Steven Bauer Boards 'Four Stars'; Plus 16 More Updates!

ABC's Broken, Conviction, The Death of Eva Sofia Valdez, Hail Mary, Notorious & Still Star-Crossed; CBS' Four Stars, The Great Indoors, Superior Donuts & Training Day; The CW's Riverdale & Transylvania FOX's 24: Legacy, Making History, Pitch & Recon; Hulu's Citizen; and NBC's Miranda's Rights.


ABC's THE DEATH OF EVA SOFIA VALDEZ
  • Debra Mooney (Everwood, Scandal) has been cast on the drama pilot starring Gina Torres and Eric Close. She will play Clara, one of the three "shadow women" who help Eva Sofia (Torres) implement her mission of vengeance.
NBC's MIRANDA'S RIGHTS
  • Ruffin Prentiss (Power, Madam Secretary) will co-star on the drama pilot starring Rebecca Breeds. He will play Shaun, one of the young partners at the firm. Open and mischievous, he fearlessly describes himself as "a half-black, half-Mexican bi-sexual from a small Texas town."
CBS' FOUR STARS
  • Ray Donovan star Steven Bauer has booked the co-lead opposite Bruce Greenwood on the drama pilot written by Becky Mode. He will play General Rodriguez, the four-star general in charge of the entire Middle East who is a consummate soldier-statesman. If the pilot is ordered to series, CBS and Showtime have made an agreement for Bauer to do both shows.
ABC's BROKEN
  • True Blood alum Anna Paquin will play the lead role on the formerly untitled drama pilot written by Meaghan Oppenheimer. She will play Gemma, an ambitious, ruthless and whip smart attorney with all the qualities of a hunter. She has been in survival mode since her troubled childhood - doing whatever it took to leave her trailer park past behind and build herself into a successful story. She is now one of the most sought-after divorce attorneys in Dallas - having made a fortune off of the heartbreak of wealthy Texans. But beneath her carefully constructed facade are layers of vulnerability, self-destruction and deeply buried trauma.
CBS' SUPERIOR DONUTS
  • David Koechner (The Office), Megyn Price (Rules of Engagement) and Sarah Stiles (Hand to God) have landed regular roles on the comedy pilot starring Brian d'Arcy James and Jermaine Fowler. Koechner will play Tush, Arthur's (James) most loyal customer, who comes in every morning for breakfast, and often stays through lunch and dinner, occupying his regular stool at the counter. Price will play Randy, a sarcastic and matter-of-fact street cop who has Superior Donuts as a part of her beat. Stiles will play Dana, a professor with a weakness for jelly donuts, and a soft spot for Arthur and her fellow patrons.
ABC's STILL STAR-CROSSED
  • Wade Briggs and Lashana Lynch have been cast as the leads on the drama pilot written by Heather Mitchell. Torrance Coombs (Reign), Zuleikha Robinson (Lost), Ebonée Noel and Medalion Rahimi have also joined the cast today. Briggs will play Benvolio Montague, a dark, dangerous and handsome guy who believes no good will come from mixing Montague and Capulet blood. He's ordered to marry Rosaline Capulet (Lynch) in the hope that their union will create peace in Verona. Rosaline is a gorgeous, intelligent and headstrong woman who is taken in by her aunt and uncle following her parents' deaths. Coombs will play Count Paris, the Count of Mantua who was betrothed to marry Juliet and is saddened when she dies. Coombs will exit Reign at the end of its current third season in order to star in the pilot. Robinson will play Lady Capulet, Juliet's mother who has grown crueler following her daughter's death. Noel will play Livia, Rosaline's sister, a conventional and stunning beauty who is not as smart as her sister. No details were released about the character Rahimi will be playing.
FOX's RECON
  • Yasmin Kaur Barn and Leonidas Castrounis have been cast on the drama pilot starring Tracy Spiridakos. Barn will play Oshin. Castrounis will play Yusuf. No further details were immediately released.
CBS' THE GREAT INDOORS
  • Christine Ko (BFFs, Ballers) will co-star on the comedy pilot starring Joel McHale. She will play Emma, the magazine's millennial social media expert who views Joel (McHale) as an out-of-touch relic from another time.
THE CW's TRANSYLVANIA
  • Amrita Acharia (Game of Thrones) is set as a series regular on the drama pilot starring Laura Brent and Luke Allen-Gale. She will play Coriander, an exotic gypsy, the leader of the matriarchal Szgany clan that runs the fleshpots of the Old City - the haunted spot where Vlad the Impaler once killed thousands of their tribe.
HULU's CITIZEN
  • Ismael Cruz Cordova (Ray Donovan, The Good Wife) has joined the cast of the drama pilot from director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. He will play Chris Martinez, a fiercely ambitious cell phone salesman methodically putting together an illicit drug empire with Mrs. Candy.
FOX's MAKING HISTORY
  • Gossip Girl alum Leighton Meester is returning to series regular television as the female lead on the comedy pilot starring Adam Pally. She will play Deborah, a colonial woman self-educated and incredibly motivated with modern ideals trapped in a regressive time. She has contemporary beliefs of gender and racial equality which everyone scoffs at in 1775.
FOX's 24: LEGACY
  • Ashley Thomas (Beowulf) and Zayne Emory (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) have landed roles on the drama pilot starring Corey Hawkins. Thomas will play Isaac Carter, Eric's (Hawkins) older brother who is angry because of a bitter past that includes Eric being married to his former girlfriend, Nicole (Anna Diop). Emory will play Drew Phelps, a junior at Marshall High School who has a crush on Amira.
FOX's PITCH
  • Bob Balaban (Show Me a Hero, Girls) has been cast on the drama pilot starring Kylie Bunbury. He will play Frank Reid, the charming baseball club owner who is wealthy both in finance and wisdom. He understands that bringing Ginny (Bunbury) up to the pros is a risk but sees the greater good in what he's doing.
ABC's NOTORIOUS
  • Second Chance star Dilshad Vadsaria will appear as a guest star in the drama pilot starring Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata. She will play Sarah Keaton, the gorgeous wife of an internet tycoon, who has a secret past that's coming back to haunt her.
ABC's CONVICTION
  • Daniel DiTomasso (Witches of East End) has booked a regular role on the drama pilot starring Hayley Atwell. He will play Jackson Morrison, Carter's (Atwell) younger brother and the family's golden child, who also happens to be a top end lawyer. 
ABC's HAIL MARY
  • Gareth Reynolds (The Naughty Show) has joined the cast of the comedy pilot starring Casey Wilson. He will play Christopher, Mary's (Wilson) older brother, never one to sugarcoat a situation or use tact, he simply speaks in facts. An offbeat oddball who runs a taxidermy shop and believes in UFOs, he may not show it but he loves his family very much.
CBS' TRAINING DAY
  • Barry Schindel (Law & Order, Intelligence) has been added to the drama pilot written by Will Beall as executive producer and showrunner.
THE CW's RIVERDALE
  • Ross Butler, Daniel Yang and Cody Kearsley will co-star on the drama pilot based on the Archie Comics characters. Butler will play Reggie Mantle. Yang will play Dilton Doiley. Kearsley will play Moose Mason. All three will be recurring if the pilot is ordered to series.
