Syfy has acquired 13-episode Canadian drama Aftermath for a premiere on the network later this summer. Production is set to begin on the post-apocalyptic thriller on May 2 in Vancouver. Space airs the series in Canada.
Aftermath centers on couple Karen and Joshua Copeland and their children Dana, Brianna and Matt, who must battle for survival after civilization comes to an apocalyptic end, triggered by massive storms, meteor strikes, earthquakes and plague - and the rise of supernatural creatures.
Julie Sarah Stone, Levi Meaden and Taylor Hickson have been cast as the three young siblings. Stone will play Dana, the practical, sardonic and quick-witted twin with a thorough knowledge of science. Hickson will play Brianna, the emotional, romantic and rebellious twin. Meaden will play Matt Copeland, the fierce competitor pushed into brutality. Leslie Hope (24, Suits) will also guest star in the first season, and will direct two episodes.
The drama was created by William Laurin and Glenn Davis. They will executive produce with Noreen Halpern and Julie Hope. Suzanne Berger and Connie Dolphin will serve as producers. Jason Stone will direct the first two episodes and serve as a consulting producer. Additional directors include Stefan Pleszczinski, Kaare Andrews, April Mullen and James Marshall. Halfire Entertainment and Universal Cable Productions will produce.
"Nothing captures he human imagination quite like fantasies of our own destruction - every culture has its own myth," said Noreen Halpern, President of Halfire Entertainment. "In this case, the end is only the beginning."
"Halfire Entertainment has brought to Syfy a powerful and poignant story of a lone family fighting against a mad world turned upside down," said Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Program Strategy, Syfy and Chiller.
