Casting News - CBS Moves 'BrainDead' to Sunday; Max Minghella & Ann Dowd Board 'The Handmaid's Tale'; Plus 5 More Updates!

ABC's Once Upon a Time; CBS' BrainDead & MacGyver; Freeform's Famous in Love; Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale; Spike's The Mist; and Starz's American Gods.



CBS' BRAINDEAD
  • The broadcast network is making a scheduling change to its new summer series. The comedic thriller starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead will move to Sunday nights at 10/9c. beginning Sunday, July 24. Repeats of Scorpion will replace the series in its former Monday night time slot at 10/9c.
SPIKE's THE MIST
  • Darren Pettie, Okezie Morro, Russell Posner, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Gus Birney, Dan Butler, Luke Cosgrove and Danica Curcic have been cast on the upcoming drama series. Pettie will play Connor Heisel, the town sheriff who struggles to maintain order in an increasingly chaotic and dangerous situation. Morro will play Jonah Dixon, a military man with amnesia who can't remember who he is. As the truth about his identity unravels, shocking secrets will be revealed. Posner will play Adrian Garff, an insecure young teenager who comes to the defense of his best friend Alex, after she is he victim of a brutal crime. Whitlock Jr. will play Gus Redman, a local mall manager who has to decide if he will take the leader role in a new society that forms from the mist survivors. Butler will play Father Romanov, a priest who is caught between modernity and tradition. Birney will play Alex Cunningham, who has always been the good daughter but has started to rebel. Cosgrove will play Jay Heisel, a popular local football star who finds himself accused of a heinous crime. Curcic will play Mia Lamber, a drug-addicted woman on the run and in search of a mysterious stash of money.
CBS' MACGYVER
  • Sandrine Holt (House of Cards, Mr. Robot) has joined the cast of the upcoming drama as a series regular. She will play Patricia Thornton, an ex-field agent turned director of operations for the DXS (Department of External Services). She doesn't let the title stand in her way and is always willing to join the team in the field - meaning that she's not going to let those under her have all the fun. 
HULU's THE HANDMAID'S TALE
  • Max Minghella (The Mindy Project) and Ann Dowd (The Leftovers) have booked regular roles on the upcoming drama starring Elisabeth Moss. Minghella will play Nick, a Guardian in Gilead who works as a driver for Commander Waterford and makes a connection with Offred (Moss), although she's unsure whether he's an Eye, working for the secret police. Dowd will play Aunt Lydia, head of the Red Center where she indoctrinates handmaids into the Gilead system. She trains them, by any means necessary, for their role as ritualized sexual servants in the homes of Commanders, the elite of Gilead.
ABC's ONCE UPON A TIME
  • Giles Matthey (True Blood, 24: Live Another Day) will appear on the drama's upcoming sixth season. He will play Morpheus, the quick-witted and insightful god of dreams from Greek mythology. He's equally good at reading people as he is at hiding his own agenda. He'll be doing what he does best - guiding people through the world of dreams. He will interact with Belle (Emilie de Ravin) and Rumple (Robert Carlyle).
FREEFORM's FAMOUS IN LOVE
  • Charlie DePew (The Amazing Spider-Man) will co-star on the upcoming drama starring Bella Thorne. He will play Jake, a down-to-earth guy from the Midwest with an edge who aspires to be a screenwriter and indie filmmaker.
STARZ's AMERICAN GODS
  • Stand-up comedian Dane Cook (Planes) has been cast on the upcoming drama starring Ricky Whittle and Ian McShane. He will play Robbie, Shadow's (Whittle) best friend who promised to hold Shadow's job for him while he's in prison. Robbie is married to Audrey, best friend to Shadow's wife Laura (Emily Browning), and he provides another shoulder for Laura to cry on while Shadow is away.
