MTV Renews 'Scream' for Season 3

A few days before its Halloween special debuts, MTV has renewed its original drama series Scream for a third season. However, Season 3 will only include six episodes - down from 10 and 13 episodes for the first and second seasons, respectively.

The renewal today also comes with the news that showrunners Michael Gans and Richard Register will not be returning for the third season. Search is underway for their replacement. Gans and Register joined the drama as showrunners for the second season, after replacing Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia who served in the role for the first season.

The second season of the drama drew an average of 377,000 total viewers in Live+Same Day figures. That number was roughly half of the total for the first season. A two-hour Halloween special is set to air on Tuesday, October 18.

The drama is executive produced by Harvey Weinstein, Bob Weinstein, Wes Craven, Tony DiSanto, Liz Gateley, Marianne Maddalena and Cathy Konrad. Dimension Television produces.

In its second season, the drama starred Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Amadeus Serafini, Carlson Young, Tracey Middendorf, Kiana Brown and Santiago Segura.
