During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, IFC announced an April premiere date for its new comedy series Brockmire. The network also renewed Portlandia for an eighth and final season.
Brockmire - based on the hit video from Funny or Die - will make its series debut on Wednesday, April 5 at 10/9c. The first season will include 8 episodes.
The comedy centers on Brockmire, a beleaguered baseball announcer who has a meltdown on-air after he discovers his beloved wife's serial infidelity. The series then picks up a decade later when Brockmire decides to reclaim his career and love life in a small town, calling Minor League Baseball for the Morristown Frackers.
Hank Azaria (The Simpsons) and Amanda Peet (Togetherness) star in the series.
Azaria created the character, with the series being written by Joel Church-Cooper and directed by Tim Kirkby. All three will also executive produce with Mike Farah and Joe Farrell.
Portlandia began its seventh season on Thursday, January 5. And now, IFC has confirmed that the sketch comedy series has been renewed for an eighth and final season, set to air in early 2018.
Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein star in the comedy. They created the series with Jonathan Krisel. All three serve as executive producers with Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer. IFC Original Productions and Broadway Video produce.
