Development News - February 9, 2017

ABC's Doomsday; CBS' Wisdom of the Crowd; FOX's Untitled Matt Nix; and Hulu's Runaways.

CBS' WISDOM OF THE CROWD
  • CBS has ordered a pilot for drama Wisdom of the Crowd written by Ted Humphrey (The Good Wife, Incorporated). He executive produces with Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman, Peter Traugott, Rachel Kaplan, Dror Mishani and Shira Hadad. CBS Television Studios, Universal Television and Keshet Media Group produce. The project centers on a tech innovator who, inspired by the notion that a million minds are better than one, creates a cutting-edge crowd-sourcing hub to solve his own daughter's murder, as well as revolutionize crime solving in San Francisco.
FOX's UNTITLED MATT NIX PROJECT
  • Blair Redford (Switched at Birth, Satisfaction) has been cast on the untitled drama pilot written by Matt Nix. He will play Sam, the strong-headed Native American leader of the underground mutant network.
HULU's RUNAWAYS
  • The Marvel drama pilot has cast The Pride today - aka the parents of the teenage characters. Ryan Sands (The Wire) will play Geoffrey Wilder, a man defined by the grueling path he's taken to achieve his self-made success. A hulking presence, he can effortlessly shift from approachable father to intimidating strategist with his son, Alex (Rhenzy Felix). Angel Parker (The Strain) will play Catherine Wilder, a successful lawyer who is deliberate and calculating in both her words and actions. But when it comes to her family, she's fiercely loyal and a loving mother. Brittany Ishibashi (This Is Us) will play Tina Minoru, a perfectionist "tiger mom," a brilliant innovator and ruthless CEO. Emotionally, she's less confident, often shying away from difficult conversations with her daughter Nico (Lyrica Okano) and careful to avoid explicit displays of her feelings. James Yaegashi (Breakfast at Tiffany's) will play Robert Minoru, a gentle and brilliant beta. Warm and feeling, he sometimes struggles with being married to a woman who so forcefully barricades her emotions while caring about Nico. Kevin Weisman (Alias) will play Dale Yorkes, a beardy, dad-core bioengineer. Incredibly science-minded, he has a deep love for his family but oftentimes falls short at knowing the right things to say to Gert (Ariela Barer). Brigid Brannagh (Army Wives) will play Stacey Yorkes, an absent-minded and professional bioengineer. Perpetually dawning Birkenstocks and a messy bun, she utilizes a progressive approach to her parenting style. Annie Wersching (Timeless) will play Leslie Dean, a complicated beauty and a poised and skilled leader. Clear-minded, focused and charismatic, she draws in devoted allies and followers who are taken by her success and charm, particularly with her daughter Karolina (Virginia Gardner). Kip Pardue (Ray Donovan) will play Frank Dean, a former teen star who rode a short-lived movie career and is now teeming with insecurity. He is seeking to renew purpose in his life while being a father to Karolina. James Marsters (Angel) will play Victor Stein, an engineering genius who may just save the world from itself. Electric cars, space travel; the military and NASA both look to him for answers. As a father to Chase (Gregg Sulkin), he has lofty expectations for his son, and when they aren't met, his retribution can be fierce. Ever Carradine (Goliath) will play Janet Stein, a perfect PTA mom. Harboring a brilliant mind of her own, she has made deep sacrifices for her husband's world-changing career. Though she hides it for the wellbeing of her son, Janet longs for more from her life.
ABC's DOOMSDAY
  • Cougar Town alum Dan Byrd will co-star on the drama pilot written by Mark Bianculli and VJ Boyd. He will play Nate, a gay, meek, skeptical hipster who runs a FiveThirtyEight-type analytical website known for making predictions.
