Freeform Renews 'Shadowhunters' for Season 3

Freeform has renewed its original drama series Shadowhunters, based on the popular Mortal Instruments novels, for a third season. The new season will debut in 2018.

The renewal comes ahead of the drama's June 5 return for the second half of its second season.

In the upcoming episodes, Shadowhunters and Downworlders are reeling from what happened at the New York Institute in the winter finale. As the rift between the two sides grows larger, the team and their Downworld friends and lovers are put in the middle of the dangerous divide.

The drama stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa and Harry Shum Jr.

The second season saw Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer replacing Ed Decter as showrunners. They will return as executive producers in Season 3, alongside McG, Michael Reisz, Matt Hastings, Mary Viola, Martin Moszkowicz and Robert Kulzer. Freeform Original Productions, Wonderland Sound and Vision, Constantin Film and Unique Features produce.
