Syfy Gives Series Orders to Dramas 'Krypton' and 'Happy!'

Syfy has given series orders to two of its pilots today - Superman prequel drama Krypton and its adaptation of Grant Morrison's graphic novel Happy!. Both dramas will premiere in 2018.

KRYPTON: When the House of El is shamed and ostracized two generations before Krypton's destruction, Superman's grandfather brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest superhero ever known.

The drama stars Cameron Cuffe, Georgina Campbell, Ian McElhinney, Elliot Cowan, Ann Ogbomo, Rasmus Hardiker, Wallis Day and Aaron Pierre.

David S. Goyer and Ian Goldberg wrote the pilot, which was directed by Colm McCarthy. Damian Kindler will serve as showrunner for the first season. Goldberg will not continue with the series after being tapped as co-showrunner on the fourth season of AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. Warner Horizon Television and DC Entertainment produce.

HAPPY!: An intoxicated, corrupt ex-cop turned hit man, Nick Sax, is adrift in a world of casual murder, soulless sex and betrayal. After a hit gone wrong, his inebriated life is forever changed by a tiny, relentlessly positive, imaginary blue winged horse.

The drama stars Christopher Meloni, Bobby Moynihan, Lili Mirojnick, Patrick Fischler, Zabryna Guevara and Ritchie Coster.

Brian Taylor and Grant Morrison wrote the pilot, which was directed by Taylor. They executive produce with Meloni, Patrick Macmanus, Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe. Universal Cable Productions and Original Films produce.
