- Broadchurch star Jodie Whittaker has been tapped to play the 13th iteration of the Doctor on the drama's upcoming eleventh season. She replaces Peter Capaldi in the role after he starred in the drama for three seasons. Whittaker is also the first female to play the iconic character. Her casting is also a reunion with Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, who is taking over as showrunner on the drama following Steven Moffat's exit.
