Casting News - Carla Gugino to Star in 'The Haunting of Hill House'; Michelle Hurd Joins 'Lethal Weapon'; Plus 5 More Updates!

ABC's Designated Survivor; CBS' Young Sheldon; FOX's Lethal Weapon; NBC's Shades of Blue; Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House & One Day at a Time; and Showtime's Homeland.




NETFLIX's THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE
  • Carla Gugino (Wayward Pines, Roadies) has been cast as one of the leads on the upcoming drama adaptation of the classic 1959 novel. No additional details were immediately released about the character she will be playing.
FOX's LETHAL WEAPON
  • Michelle Hurd (Blindspot, Ash vs. Evil Dead) has landed a recurring role on the drama's upcoming second season. She will play Gina Santos, who is brought in as Chief, above Avery (Kevin Rahm), to take some control of the division. She has a past with Murtaugh (Damon Wayans), and he is somewhat paralyzed by her arrival and the sexual tension between them, though it may be just in his head. Her casting means she will not return as a series regular for the third season of NBC's Blindspot, but will likely continue to recur.
SHOWTIME's HOMELAND
  • Jake Weber, Linus Roache and Maury Sterling have been promoted to series regulars for the drama's upcoming seventh season. Weber and Roache joined the show as recurring in Season 6 while Sterling has been appearing since the first season. Weber plays Brett O'Keefe, a volatile and scheming conspiracy theorist. Roache plays David Wellington, the right-hand man to President Keane (Elizabeth Marvel). Sterling plays Max Piotrowski, a CIA surveillance expert.
NBC's SHADES OF BLUE
  • Revenge star Nick Wechsler has booked a recurring role on the drama's upcoming third season. He will play Detective Cole. No additional character details were released though.
ABC's DESIGNATED SURVIVOR
  • NCIS: New Orleans alum Zoe McLellan has joined the drama's upcoming second season as a new series regular. She will play Kendra Daynes, a brilliant and wily attorney who lands her dream job as White House counsel. On her personal and professional journey, she develops close relationships with the White House staff while wrestling legal issues that find their way to her desk because she advises the most powerful man in the world.
CBS' YOUNG SHELDON
  • Annie Potts (Designing Women) has been cast as a new series regular on the upcoming spinoff of The Big Bang Theory. She will play Meemaw, Sheldon's (Iain Armitage) foul-mouthed, hard-drinking Texas grandmother. She is very supportive of her grandson and his unique gifts. The character was played by June Squibb in a Season 9 episode of The Big Bang Theory.
NETFLIX's ONE DAY AT A TIME
  • Jane the Virgin star Ivonne Coll will appear in an upcoming episode of the comedy's second season. She will play Esme, Dr. Berkowitz's (Stephen Tobolowsky) new love interest. Lydia (Rita Moreno) experiences unfamiliar feelings of jealousy when she discovers that he has taken another beautiful Latina on a date. Esme makes it clear she is no pushover when Lydia confronts her about the relationship.
