Amazon Cancels 'The Last Tycoon' After One Season

Amazon has decided to cancel its original drama series The Last Tycoon after one season, it was announced today. The show debuted its 9-episode season on July 28, 2017.

The drama starred Matt Bomer, Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins, Dominique McElligott, Enzo Cilenti, Koen De Bouw, Mark O'Brien and Rosemarie DeWitt.

Billy Ray developed the series based on the unfinished novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald. He executive produced with Christopher Keyser, Joshua D. Maurer, David A. Stern and Alixandre Witlin. TriStar Television produced.

Today's cancellation caps a week of big and costly decisions for the streaming service. Amazon this week also cancelled Z: The Beginning of Everything (despite it already being in preproduction for its second season), changed showrunners for the second season of Goliath (while scrapping three episodes that were already shot) and made an announcement that it needed to chase bolder and broader shows in order to compete in the cultural zeitgeist with Netflix and Hulu.
