Syfy Orders Drama 'Nightflyers' Based on Novel by George R.R. Martin

After previously ordering the project to pilot, Syfy is near a deal to give a straight-to-series order to original drama series Nightflyers based on the novel by George R.R. Martin.

Set in the future on the eve of Earth's destruction, the drama follows a crew of explorers who journey on the most advanced ship in the galaxy, The Nightflyer, to intercept a mysterious alien spacecraft that might hold the key to their survival. As the crew nears their destination, they discover that the ship's artificial intelligence and never-seen captain may be steering them into deadly and unspeakable horrors deep in the dark reaches of space.

Jeff Buhler developed the drama, with Dan Cerone set as showrunner and Mike Cahill joining as director. He executive produces with Gene Klein, David Bartis, Doug Liman, Alison Rosenzweig, Michael Gaeta, Llyod Ivan Miller and Alice P. Neuhauser. Robert Jaffe is a producer. Martin will not be involved in the project due to his overall deal at HBO. Universal Cable Productions, Hypnotic Productions, Gaeta Rosenzweig Films and Lloyd Ivan Miller Productions will produced.

It's being rumored that the current deal would include Netflix coming onboard as a co-producer which would see the streaming service have second window rights domestically and first window with international.
