ABC Gives Series Order to Drama 'The Rookie' Starring Nathan Fillion

Castle star Nathan Fillion is officially making his return to series regular television on ABC. Today, the broadcast network has given a straight-to-series order to drama The Rookie which will feature Fillion in the lead role.

The series will reunite Fillion with Alexi Hawley, who served as showrunner on the final season of Castle.

Inspired by a true story, the series centers on John Nolan (Fillion), the oldest rookie in the LAPD. At an age where most are at the peak of their career, Nolan cast aside his comfortable, small-town life and moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a cop. Now, surrounded by rookies 20 years his junior, he must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a "young" cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

Hawley created the series. He will executive produce with Fillion, Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Michelle Chapman and Jon Steinberg. ABC Studios and The Mark Gordon Company produce.
