Showtime Announces Premiere Date for 'The Chi' Created by Lena Waithe

Showtime has today announced a premiere date for its upcoming original drama series The Chi created by Emmy winner Lena Waithe (Master of None).






The drama will premiere on Sunday, January 7 at 10/9c.

The cast includes Jason Mitchell, Jacob Latimore, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Alex Hibbert, Yolonda Ross, Armando Riesco, Tiffany Boone, Sonja Sohn, Jahking Guillory and Steven Williams.

The series is a coming-of-age story centering on a group of residents who become linked by coincidence but bonded by the need for connection and redemption. Kevin (Hibbert) is the pre-teen who must step past shattered illusions and embrace the normal rites of childhood. Brandon (Mitchell) is the dreamer makes his own nearly impossible leap of faith to success in life and love with girlfriend Jerrika (Boone). Emmett (Latimore) is the carefree teen thrust into complex responsibility with guidance from his mother Jada (Ross). Ronnie (Mwine) is the drifter whose struggle to love and be loved calls into question his every pursuit.

Waithe executive produces with showrunner Elwood Reid, director Rick Famuyiwa, Common, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone. Fox 21 Television Studios and Freedom Road Productions produce.
