Amazon Orders 8 Episodes of Drama 'The Boys' from Eric Kripke, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

Amazon has given a series order to original drama series The Boys based on the comic book series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. The eight-episode first season will begin production in Spring 2018 for a 2019 debut.

The drama takes places in a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame. It centers on a group of vigilantes known informally as "the boys" who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than blue collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Timeless) developed the series and will serve as showrunner for the first season. Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will direct the premiere. The trio executive produce with Neal H. Moritz, Ori Marmur, Pavun Shetty and James Weaver. Ennis and Robertson will co-executive produce. Sony Pictures Television, Amazon Studios, Original Film and Point Grey Pictures produce.

"In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, The Boys is the next evolution in this popular genre," said Sharon Tal Yguado, Head of Scripted Series, Amazon Studios. "With Eric, Evan, Seth and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television."
