CBS Renews 'Young Sheldon' for Season 2

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, CBS announced a second season renewal for its original comedy series Young Sheldon. It's the first new show at CBS this year to be picked up for the 2018-19 broadcast season.

CBS notes that the series is the most watched new comedy on any network in 18 years. It is the No. 2 comedy on all of television at the moment, behind only The Big Bang Theory. It's also the No. 3 series on television overall, behind This Is Us and The Big Bang Theory.

The comedy stars Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Montana Jordan, Raegan Revord and Annie Potts, with narration from Jim Parsons.

Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro created the comedy. They executive produce with Jim Parsons, Todd Spiewak and Jon Favreau. Warner Bros. Television and Chuck Lorre Productions produce.

"Young Sheldon has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it's been on the air," said Kelly Kahl, President of CBS Entertainment. "While the show's DNA is clearly rooted in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can't wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd's vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older... and smarter."
