FOX Renews 'The Gifted'; Sets Premiere Date for 'New Girl'

During its presentation at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour, FOX announced a second season renewal for The Gifted as well as a premiere date for the final season of New Girl.






The Gifted will return for its second season during the 2018-19 broadcast season. The drama wraps its 13-episode first season on Monday, January 15 with a two-hour finale. The drama was always envisioned as having short-run seasons.

The drama stars Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Percy Hynes White, Coby Bell, Jamie Chung, Blair Redford and Emma Dumont.

Matt Nix created the drama. He executive produces with Stan Lee, Alan Fine, Karim Zreik, Joe Quesada, Jim Chory, Jeph Loeb, Len Wiseman, Simon Kinberg, Bryan Singer and Lauren Shuler Donner. 20th Century Fox Television, Marvel Television, Kinberg Genre, Bad Hat Harry Productions, The Donners' Company and Flying Glass of Milk Productions produce.

In Live+7 numbers, the drama's first season has averaged a 2.0 rating in the Adults 18-49 demographic and 8.3 million total viewers.


The 8-episode seventh and final season of New Girl will premiere on Tuesday, April 10 at 9:30/8:30c. The show will end its run with an hourlong finale on Tuesday, May 15 at 9/8c.

In the final season, a three-year time jump will have occurred. Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) are happily together and returning from a whirlwind European book tour; stay-at-home dad Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and working mom Cece (Hannah Simone) are raising their daughter, Ruth; and Winston (Lamorne Morris) and Aly (guest star Nasim Pedrad) are married, with a child on the way.

Additional guest stars in the final season include Damon Wayans Jr., Dermot Mulroney, David Walton, Nelson Franklin, Sam Richardson, Jamie Lee Curtis, Rob Reiner, JB Smoove and Tig Notaro.
