TNT Gives Series Order to Drama 'Snowpiercer' Starring Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs

After spending a year as a pilot at the network, TNT has officially given a series order to original drama series Snowpiercer based on the 2013 film of the same name. A premiere date and episode count were not immediately released.

Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, the remnants of humanity now inhabit a gigantic, perpetually moving train that circles the globe. The series questions class warfare, social injustice and the politics of survival.

The drama stars Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, Alison Wright, Benjamin Haigh, Mickey Sumner, Annalise Basso, Sasha Frolova, Roberto Urbina, Katie McGuinness, Susan Park and Lena Hall.

Josh Friedman developed the series and will serve as showrunner on the first season. He executive produces with Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Bong Joon-Ho, Park Chan-Wook, Lee Tae-Hun, Dooho Choi and director Scott Derrickson. Studio T, Tomorrow Studios and CJ Entertainment produce.

"I'm a personal fan of Bong Joon-ho's epic film and jumped at the chance to honor his original vision, yet expand upon the world and characters with a diverse, award-winning cast," said Sarah Aubrey, Executive Vice President of Original Programming, TNT. "Science fiction is the perfect genre to examine issues of race, class, gender and natural resources with thought-provoking and exciting storytelling. Snowpiercer will explore those relevant issues while embarking on a wild, action-filled ride."
