Casting News - February 6, 2018

ABC's Grey's Anatomy & Kevin (Probably) Saves the World; CBS' Young Sheldon; FOX's Empire; and HBO's True Detective.

HBO's TRUE DETECTIVE
  • Mamie Gummer has been cast in a lead role on the upcoming third installment of the anthology series. She recently starred in WGN America's Manhattan and Amazon's The Collection. Her casting comes a few weeks after her mother Meryl Streep also joined an HBO drama - the second season of Big Little Lies.
  • She will play Lucy Purcell, a young mother of two at the center of a tragic crime.
ABC's KEVIN (PROBABLY) SAVES THE WORLD
  • Leslie Jones will appear in an upcoming episode of the dramedy's first season. She was Emmy nominated for her work on NBC's Saturday Night Live and will next be seen as a special correspondent for NBC's coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
  • She will play Cindy, a fellow celestial being like Yvette (Kimberly Hébert Gregory). When Yvette starts to experience some very human weaknesses, she recruits Cindy as her replacement. Kevin (Jason Ritter) will quickly learn that Cindy's approach is a little more intense.
CBS' YOUNG SHELDON
  • Jason Alexander will guest star in an upcoming episode of the comedy's first season. He starred for nine seasons on NBC's Seinfeld and is currently the co-creator and star of Audience's Hit the Road.
  • He will play Mr. Lundy, Medford High School's drama teacher who boldly shepherds Sheldon (Iain Armitage) into the world of acting.
FOX's EMPIRE
  • Kade Wise and Chet Hanks have booked recurring roles on the drama's fourth season.
  • Wise (Murder in the Woods) will play Preacher Azal, a politically conscious, Muslim rapper who piques Jamal's (Jussie Smollett) musical interest.
  • Hanks (Shameless, Tales) will play Blake, a blue-collar rapper, a skilled MC and lyricist.
ABC's GREY'S ANATOMY
  • Scott Speedman has landed a top secret role on the drama's fourteenth season. He starred in The WB's Felicity and is currently a series regular on TNT's Animal Kingdom. However, his stunt on the cable drama could be coming to an end because his character, Baz, was involved in a season finale cliffhanger that left his fate in limbo.
  • No details are being released about the role or how many episodes he'll appear in. He will be credited as a guest star though.
