Development News - FX Orders Pilot for 'Devs' from Alex Garland; Dave Annable to Star in 'The Code'; Plus 6 More Updates!

CBS' 25, Cagney & Lacey, The Code & Fam; FOX's Dan the Weatherman & Untitled David Elliot; FX's Devs; and HBO's Euphoria.





FX NEW PILOT ORDER
  • DEVS (Drama) - Written by and directed by Alex Garland (Ex Machina, Annihilation). Executive produced by Garland and Scott Rudin. Produced by FX Productions, Scott Rudin Productions and DNA Television. Logline: A young computer engineer, Lily, investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend.
FOX's UNTITLED DAVID ELLIOT PROJECT
  • Riley Smith has been cast on the drama pilot starring Rachelle Lefevre. He starred in The CW's short-lived drama Frequency and is currently recurring on The CW's Life Sentence.
  • He will play Levi Scott, Madeleine's (Lefevre) brother.
CBS' FAM
  • Tone Bell will play the male lead on the comedy pilot starring Nina Dobrev. He has starred in several one-season shows - including Netflix's Disjointed, NBC's Truth Be Told and NBC's Bad Judge.
  • He will play Jay, a sophisticated NYU history professor who comes from old money but is refreshingly unaffected and down-to-earth despite his refined background. Deeply in love with Clem (Dobrev), he proposes to her - much to the delight of his parents, Walt (Brian Stokes Mitchell) and Rose (Sheryl Lee Ralph) who think Clem is a real catch. But he learns that Clem has not been completely honest about a few key elements in her life. For example, her father isn't actually dead - and it drives a wedge of mistrust between them that might not be easily mended.
CBS' 25
  • Matt Shively and Emily Osment will star in the comedy pilot written by Hilary Winston. Also cast on the pilot today is Denée Benton and Jessie Ennis. Shively starred for two seasons in ABC's The Real O'Neals. Osment starred for five seasons in ABC Family's Young & Hungry. Benton starred in the second season of Lifetime's UnREAL. Ennis has recurred on AMC's Better Call Saul and Netflix's Love.
  • Shively will play Kyle, a smart, intense and confident young man who has moved to Austin ostensibly to start his own software company. But he's really in town to declare his love for Kate.
  • Osment will play Kate, a fun, competitive and bright medical student. Kyle may have been in love with her for the past decade or so - but as far as Kate is concerned, he is strictly in the friend zone. She is delighted when her longtime boyfriend Jimmy proposes to her, just after Kyle arrives in town.
  • Benton will play Morgan, Kate's roommate and best friend. She knows right away that Kyle is angling to win Kate away from her fiancé - and although she understands Kyle's feelings, she wants to protect Kate from getting hurt.
  • Ennis will play Becca, Kate and Morgan's good friend who can be "the life (or death)" of the party based on her mood.
CBS' THE CODE
  • Dave Annable has booked the lead role on the drama pilot written by Craig Sweeny and Craig Turk. He starred for five seasons in ABC's Brothers & Sisters and is a series regular in Paramount's upcoming drama Yellowstone.
  • He will play Captain John "Sid" Sidney, a whip-smart pragmatist with a charming habit of tardiness. He is a driven prosecutor and active-duty Marine, a lifestyle chosen for him thanks to family tradition but a responsibility he treats with devotion and passion.
FOX's DAN THE WEATHERMAN
  • Thomas Lennon has landed the lead role on the comedy pilot written by Steve Dildarian. He starred for three seasons in CBS' The Odd Couple and was the co-creator and star of Reno 9-1-1.
  • He will play Dan the Weather. After getting fired from his cushy job as a weatherman at the local TV station, he finds it's not enough to be a charming white man in this world. He reluctantly ends up at the neighboring Spanish TV station.
CBS' CAGNEY & LACEY
  • Sarah Drew and Michelle Hurd are set as the new leads of the drama pilot reboot written by Bridget Carpenter. Drew's casting comes a week after it was announced she would be leaving ABC's Grey's Anatomy after nine season. Hurd has recently appeared in NBC's Blindspot and FOX's Lethal Weapon.
  • Drew will play LAPD Detective Cagney, Lacey's nimble and easygoing partner and protégée. The role was played by Sharon Gless in the original series.
  • Hurd will play LAPD Detective Lacey, an athletic, polished, former high school track and field champion. Empathetic and straightforward, she's the more experienced partner. The role was played by Tyne Daly in the original series.
HBO NEW PILOT ORDER
  • EUPHORIA (Drama) - Written by Sam Levinson based on an Israeli format. Directed by Augustine Frizzell. Executive produced by Levinson, Frizzell, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, Tmira Yardeni, Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein, Mirit Toovi, Yoram Mokadi and Gary Lennon. Produced by A24 Television. Logline: A group of high school students attempt to cope through drugs, sex and violence in an effort to make sense of an uncertain future.
