Development News - March 29, 2018

Freeform's Girls Code and NBC's Bright Futures.

FREEFORM's GIRLS CODE
  • Sophia Di Martino, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Hayley Magnus, Andy Buckley and Rene Gube will star in the comedy pilot written by Kim Rosenstock.
  • Di Martino (Flowers) will play Wendy, a wunderkind robotics engineer and CEO of Lighthouse Industries. While charismatic, successful, confident and seemingly unstoppable, a PR disaster and catastrophic malfunction forces her to step back and figure out what to do next.
  • Howell-Baptiste (Downward Dog, Killing Eve) will play Angela, an equally brilliant professor of engineering. She chose to pursue the nonprofit side of coding by creating an incubator for up-and-coming female tech entrepreneurs, overseeing a workplace of genius women, young and old, who are on a mission to change the world.
  • Magnus (The Dressmaker) will play Johanna, Wendy's upbeat, ambitious and hyper-competent assistant.
  • Buckley (The Office, Odd Mom Out) will play Wendy's mentor who often fills a paternal role for her.
  • Gube (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Ground Floor) will play the burned-out but hardworking chief operating officer of Lighthouse Industries.
NBC's BRIGHT FUTURES
  • Emily Ratajkowski, Shameik Moore, Calum Worthy, Jimmy Tatro and Lilly Singh will play the lead roles on the comedy pilot written by Hale Rothstein, Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis. Furthermore, Lisa Kudrow will serve as the narrator of the pilot.
  • Ratajkowski (The Spoils Before Dying will play Sarah, a girl-next-door type but also with a behind-the-ear tattoo. She can just as easily bro out with the guys as she can be the girliest girl.
  • Moore (The Get Down) will play Aaron, one of four friends living in an L.A. apartment. A drinking blowout on the night he passed the bar put a halt to any grandiose ideas and he now works as a lowly personal injury attorney.
  • Worthy (American Vandal) will play Danny, a gung-ho yet ultra-neurotic USC film school grad and a wannabe screenwriter who's just landed his first job working for Hollywood's hottest up-and-coming writer.
  • Tatro (American Vandal) will play Berger, on the surface he's the hater of the crew but deep down he's incredibly loyal and would be the first one to take a bat to someone for anyone of his friends.
  • Singh (Fahrenheit 451) will play Sid, a recent med school graduate and who became a doctor mostly so people would call her a doctor.
