Apple Gives Series Order to Comedy 'Dickinson' Starring Hailee Steinfeld

Apple has today given a series order to the original comedy series Dickinson starring Hailee Steinfeld (Edge of Seventeen, True Grit). The series will likely debut on the new streaming service in 2019.

The comedy takes viewers into the world of Emily Dickinson and explores the constraints of society, gender and family from the perspective of a budding writer who doesn't fit in to her own time through her imaginative point of view. The series is described as Emily's coming-of-age story and one woman's fight to get her voice heard. The series is set in the 1800s and features a modern sensibility and tone.

Alena Smith (The Affair, The Newsroom) created the comedy. She will executive produce with Paul Lee, Michael Sugar, Ashley Zalta, Alex Goldstone, Darlene Hunt and director David Gordon Green. Anonymous Content, Sugar23 Productions and Wiip will produce.
