Emmy Predictions 2018 - Which Programs Will Likely Be Nominated for Limited Series?

From June 11 to June 25, 2018, voting is taking place for The 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. To add to the excitement of the past year in television, I'm providing analysis on which shows and performers are likely to get nominated this year. Next up is Limited Series.

2017 Nominees:
        HBO's Big Little Lies (WINNER)
        FX's Fargo
        FX's Feud: Bette and Joan
        National Geographic's Genius
        HBO's The Night Of

This is a category that would probably benefit from nominating more shows. The past few years have kept things capped at five nominees. And yet, the limited series model has seen a boom in quantity and quality as of late with lots of outlets developing those shows as well as producing season-long anthology series which also qualify here. That means it's going to once again be a competitive race just to get into the field. I'm not even particularly confident about any of the picks that I have getting nominated. There are a few that seem highly likely either because of their past track records or the creatives involved. But there's also so many shows in the second tier of this list that really deserve to be mentioned as well. The Emmy Awards made the right decision in expanding the field of comedy and drama series to seven nominees a couple years ago. It would be beneficial to expand this category as well. In fact, this field could even go up to ten nominees and it would still be very exciting and unable to fit all of the brilliant work being done in this form.

So now, here's my thoughts on the programs most likely to be nominated for Limited Series:
  1. FX's The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story
  2. Hulu's The Looming Tower
  3. Netflix's Godless
  4. Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return
  5. Showtime's Patrick Melrose
And now, for some serious threats that could break into the list:
  1. SundanceTV's Top of the Lake: China Girl
  2. Starz's Howards End
  3. USA's The Sinner
  4. AMC's The Terror
  5. National Geographic's Genius: Picasso
  6. Netflix's Alias Grace
  7. FX's American Horror Story: Cult
  8. Netflix's American Vandal
Some considerable long-shots:
  1. PBS' Little Women
  2. Netflix's Seven Seconds
  3. Discovery's Manhunt: Unabomber
  4. TNT's The Alienist
  5. HBO's Mosaic
  6. Netflix's Collateral
  7. Paramount's Waco
  8. National Geographic's The Long Road Home
  9. USA's Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and the Notorious B.I.G.
And now, just some colorful oddities who still have an outside chance:
  1. Netflix's The Defenders
  2. Hulu's National Treasure: Kiri
  3. Starz's The Girlfriend Experience
  4. Amazon's Picnic at Hanging Rock
  5. Cinemax's Rellik
  6. NBC's Law & Order: True Crime - The Menendez Murders
  7. Amazon's The Last Tycoon
