Netflix Gives Series Orders to Dramas 'Away' and 'Kaos'

Netflix has today given series orders to a pair of new original series - the drama Away and the darkly comic Kaos. Both shows will produce 10 episode first seasons that will debut in 2019.

Loosely inspired by Chris Jones' Esquire article of the same name, Away is an epic love story and a thrilling tale of survival set against humanity's greatest endeavor - the first human mission to Mars. Emma Green is an American astronaut who must leave her husband and teenage daughter behind in order to command an international space crew embarking upon a treacherous, year-long mission. It is a series about hope humanity and how ultimately, we need one another if we are to achieve impossible things.

Jason Katims and Andrew Hinderaker created the drama. Katims will executive produce with Matt Reeves and Adam Kassan. Hinderaker will be a co-executive producer. Furthermore, the former head of development at Katims' production company, Michelle Lee, will be credited as an executive producer in the first episode. She was key to the drama's development and sale to Netflix but has since moved to Apple as a creative executive. Her replacement at the company, Jeni Mulein will serve as a co-executive producer on episodes two through ten. Universal Television, True Jack Productions and 6th & Idaho Productions will produce.

Kaos is a darkly comedic and contemporary reimagining of Greek mythology, exploring themes of gender politics, power and life in the underworld.

Charlie Covell created the series. She will executive produce with Nina Lederman, Tanya Seghatchian and John Woodward. All3Media and Brightstar Productions will produce.
