Freeform's 'Shadowhunters' to End After 3 Seasons

Freeform has announced today that the original drama series Shadowhunters will be ending with its current third season. However, the network has also ordered two additional episodes for the season to ensure that the drama ends with the closure the fans deserve.

Freeform originally only ordered ten episodes for the drama's third season. But then, the network increased the order to 20 episodes. The first half of the season aired this spring and wrapped its run on May 15. The final 12 episodes will debut on the cable channel in Spring 2019.

The drama stars Katherine McNamara, Dominic Sherwood, Alberto Rosende, Emeraude Toubia, Matthew Daddario, Isaiah Mustafa, Alisha Wainwright and Harry Shum Jr.

Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer serve as showrunners on the drama. They executive produce with McG, Michael Reisz, Matt Hastings, Mary Viola, Martin Moszkowicz and Robert Kulzer. Constantin Films produce.

"We are very proud of Shadowhunters, a series that broke new ground in the genre world and became a fan favorite," said the network in a statement. "However, along with our partners at Constantin, we reached the very difficult decision not to renew the show for a fourth season. But as big supporters and fans ourselves, Freeform insisted on and championed the filming of a special two-part finale that would give devoted fans a proper ending. The twelve episodes will air in spring of 2019. We want to thank our talented creators, producers, cast and crew along with our colleagues at Constantin for their hard work and dedication and to Cassie Clare for her incredible book series. We look forward to the final chapter of this breakthrough drama."
